beFIT – Matt
When I was a kid, I hung out in the kitchen a lot with my Mom. She was a great cook and I was able to pick up a few skills in the kitchen. Some weekends, I try to cook a few meals for the upcoming week. Laura appreciates it and I enjoy doing it.
Recently, I have been thinking about how easy it is to feed our family bad food. When we do not take the time to prepare meals, we inevitably end up eating a lot of junk. There are a lot of chronically sick people in the United States and I think the food that we eat fuels the problem.
Cooking is a good first step in eating healthy. Take some time this week to plan a meal and make it from scratch. No matter the result, you are taking a practical step towards becoming healthier.

I recently transitioned to a new job and was challenged to read the book Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin. I can honestly say I have not read a book that fits our beDriven pillar better than this one!
This book is all about taking your life and career by the horns and not blaming anyone but yourself for the results. The essence of Extreme Ownership is that the responsibility for what happened or happens is always on you.
If you are a leader on a team and someone doesn’t know what they should be doing that is on you. You need to own the education and training of your team. If you want to grow your career, it’s your responsibility to take the initiative to do that. Bring up career development at your next 1 on 1 with your manager or get a mentor at work.
The book covers 12 areas of ownership that you can apply to your career and life as a whole. If you are looking to get motivated give this book a read and comment on our social media what you got out of it.
beNOBLE – Ryan
Things are weird right now. Really weird.
I was thinking about that as I was driving to the grocery store the other day. I drove past a bank and saw someone heading into the lobby with a mask, hat and sunglasses on. If it weren’t 2020 I would have certainly called the police to let them know about a robbery.
It struck me even further as I was in line at the grocery store to pay for my stuff. Everyone had masks on. I could read no expression on anybody’s faces. The cashier was friendly and efficient but I wasn’t able to see if she was smiling, frowning, sticking her tongue out at me… nothing.
What a sterile (pun intended) world that we live in at the moment. So much of our daily interaction with other people used to be non-verbal. Subtle cues on people’s faces that indicated how they were feeling. Now we get no feedback… nothing.
I’m not always the most outgoing person with strangers (introvert) but I’m going to try to bring back a little bit of that human-to-human interaction that the world seems to be lacking right now.
Give it a try with me. Strike up a conversation while you’re in line, ask the cashier how their day is going, compliment a stranger on their mask. Let us know what other ideas you come up with!
