We talk a lot at Core4Life about having a core group of people to keep you accountable, especially when it comes to health and fitness. We as a group have done some great competitions wrapped around that concept that we’ve discussed previously. However, we know that there could be circumstances that prevent that from happening in your current stage of life…welcome 8fit.

There are several apps like this, but I found this one to be very helpful for me when I was traveling a lot and had about 10-30 mins to get in a workout. It creates workouts for you based on your preferences. I utilized the free version which worked great for this, but you can get more customizable workouts, classes, recipes, eating plans, etc. for a very reasonable price if you need 8fit to be your accountability partner. Give it a try today or suggest some other options to us on social media @corefourlife.

When I got into my car this morning to head to work, I felt at ease. Then when I made it into the office and sat down in my cube, I felt a sense of preparedness. In contrast, when I walked through my basement to get to the garage this morning, I felt stressed.

So what’s the difference between these places? Last week I cleaned my car and my office. I know where things are now so I am not wasting time searching around and feeling the burden of needing to tidy up those areas. At the moment, I wouldn’t cringe if I had to toss the keys to my car to a friend or if my boss swung by my desk because these areas are neat and organized.

I’m a big work in progress when it comes to maintaining a neat and organized space to operate in, but I know how good it feels when things are put in their place. I encourage you to tackle one area this week with me. Think about the most important area that needs to be on point so that you can function to the best of your abilities. Then schedule the right time to get it done. I will be in my basement this week trying my best to clean up the mess. Who knows, maybe I will finally locate my elusive stud finder that has notoriously been missing for months.

One of the best things you can do for your child’s cognitive development is reading to them. Reading has been linked to increased concentration and discipline, academic success, language skills, and creativity.

I’ll admit that there are many nights that I don’t have the willpower or energy left to read for an audience of 4 boys under 11. But my wife an I try to read stories at least one a week to our boys.

What I didn’t realize is how special that bonding time was to my boys as well. I typically read one book for my older boys and one for the twins but lately I don’t have the patience for two reading sessions so they were combined into one. I choose some kind of action/adventure story to help keep their attention. We are currently reading The Hardy Boys mysteries that I also loved as a kid.

Despite not paying perfect attention and fighting with their older brothers the whole time my 4 year olds seemed to really enjoy it. For the first week after we started they asked if we would be reading together again.

So if you are looking for a great way to bond with you kids and have the added benefit of helping their cognitive development, pick a book and start a bedtime story tradition in your house.

We’ve been having some incredible weather here in Ohio. Considering that it’s not completely out of the question to get some serious snow in September here, we’ve been super lucky.

We recently took advantage of the nice weather and headed down to Mike’s lake house with a couple of great friends and past guests – Marc & Matt. We played some Crossnet, raced the jet ski, ate tons of grilled meat, recorded some Quick Hits episodes (coming soon!), and had accountability time around the fire.

It was a great opportunity to spend time together and grow deeper in our relationships.

Plan some time to spend with friends who ‘sharpen’ you this week. Even if it’s just a phone call or Zoom meeting.
