Here are a few of the workouts and strategies I’ve gotten into lately that have been successful (at least I think so)…

  1. Trying to run a mile twice a week. Had it down to a 6:42 pace, pulled my hamstring during one of our 6am track workouts, just getting back to it and have it back to under a 7 minute pace. Gotta keep at it
  2. Track Ladder:
    1. 400m run, 40 push-ups, 40 sit-ups, 40 air squats
    2. 200m run, 20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups, 20 air squats
    3. 100m run, 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 10 air squats
    4. 50m run, 5 push-ups, 5 sit-ups, 5 air squats
    5. 50m run, 5 push-ups, 5 sit-ups, 5 air squats
    6. 100m run, 10 push-ups, 10 sit-ups, 10 air squats
    7. 200m run, 20 push-ups, 20 sit-ups, 20 air squats
    8. 400m run, 40 push-ups, 40 sit-ups, 40 air squats
  3. As many 135 bench reps as possible in 15 minutes – rotating between 2 or more people (If you don’t have a bench, you can do this with any exercise you want).
  4. Outside of whole work-out routines, a good way to stay active when stuck at home working during a global pandemic: 10 push-ups, 10 curls, 10 reverse flys, 10 air squats (insert whatever exercise you want)…
    1. After every virtual meeting/call or…
    2. After every bathroom break or…
    3. After every time you leave your home office/make-shift office 😉

The podcast interviews we’ve done recently have been a huge encouragement to me. Getting to hear the stories of how guys have gotten to where they are professionally and personally is incredible. Just like our listeners, we often don’t know the details and struggles that our guests have experienced and how those events have lead them to where they are today.

One thing that stuck with me from our recent podcast with producer, song writer and musician Keith Everette Smith was his drive to never experience again some of the pain he has walked through. Sometimes the most powerful motivation is to not experience something. For example, I never want to walk through a painful family breakup or get caught in a sin pattern that could unravel my career or position.

This week, take time to review where are you most vulnerable right now. How can you make a plan today to firm up weaknesses that could threaten your most important relationships, career aspirations and goals? Take steps to prioritize your weaknesses before they become pitfalls that derail the person you want to become.

Finally, share those concerns with someone you trust and ask for their help in holding you accountable. Life will undoubtedly throw curveballs our way but take action today to be better equipped to handle the struggle and overcome it.

With all the recent issues that our society is facing its no surprise that mental health is a key topic these days. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. We get to discuss this some in an upcoming podcast.

Some of the stats around mental health may be surprising as it is far more common than I thought.

  • One in five American adults experienced a mental health issue
  • One in 10 young people experienced a period of major depression
  • One in 25 Americans lived with a serious mental illness, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression

If you or someone you know is really struggling during this time don’t be afraid to ask for help.

A good resource I found was the book Get Out of Your Head by Jennie Allen. I found this book to be extremely helpful in taking control of our thoughts and aligning our thinking with the way God intended.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Our family recently invested in a camper, or travel trailer to us “professional” campers. It’s a 36′ beast with 3 slide-outs. The learning curve for towing that thing is pretty steep, but it’s definitely gotten easier.

Redneck Mode: Engaged

We’ve been having a great time checking out the campgrounds near our home here in northeast Ohio. We’ve been to Berlin Lake, Pymatuning, and West Branch so far and hope to hit many more before the year ends.

It’s been an awesome time for our family to get out into nature (with air conditioning close by, of course) and spend some quality time together.

If you’ll be at any Ohio campgrounds anytime soon, let me know @corefourlife and we can share some bourbon – a camping necessity.
