Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes

The only thing constant in life is change

Heraclitus

Our goal at Core4Life is to embrace change. In fact, we based our whole premise as a company/podcast on it – check out our mission statement on the homepage. We want to see changes in ourselves in order to improve our lives and the lives of those around us. However, we know that change, particularly in our own lives, doesn’t come easy. It’s hard. Like… really, really hard.

Have you ever tried to quit a bad habit or addiction like smoking, pornography, poor eating, screen time, or drinking? Were you able to do it alone? Was it easy?

What about establishing a new, good habit like reading your Bible every day, working out, running, eating healthy, or saving money? Piece of cake, right?

Probably not.

We are drawn to sin like moths to a flame and can fall back into old habits incredibly easily – it’s our nature as humans in a fallen world. Unfortunately, that type of change is all too easy.

As Christians, we recognize that we can do almost nothing to change for the better within our own power. It’s like Sisyphus pushing the boulder up the hill. Every step is a struggle and if you let up on the pressure for one second you get crushed and fall back to the bottom.

Stop being Sisyphus | Counterintuity

However, when we give things over to God, incredible things can happen.

What if you didn’t struggle to change, but instead opened your heart and let God make the change in you? Can you imagine being freed from that life? Can you picture God coming beside you and shouldering the burden for you so that you can walk unfettered?

It’s still an uphill climb, but with the creator of the universe carrying your load things seem a lot easier.

This week, ask God to carry some of the burdens that you are struggling with.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30
