Lots of good memes out there relating to diets and a lot of truth to them too. There are many diets (or “lifestyles”) that are tough to maintain consistently…Whole 30, Keto, Atkins, Weight Watchers, etc. The key is finding what works for you.
We recently had Dan Lemoine on our podcast who is the Clinic Director for re:vitalize, who specialize in figuring out the right way to lose weight and be healthy for your body specifically. So whether you use a professional or try to figure it out yourself; you have to know what works for you.
For me, it was going hard on a diet for a month to get to where I wanted my weight to be. For some, it might be more than a month, some might be less. After that, I always found myself gaining the weight back after a certain period of time. One way that I’ve combatted that is through intermittent fasting. There are different ways to go about this, but for me, if I put on a couple pounds, I just go from dinner to dinner without eating between and I’m back to where I want to be. This looks like #3, Eat Stop Eat, on the website above. It does take some discipline, but it has been much easier to maintain and I get to continue to eat the foods I want to eat.
beDRIVEN – Matt
One of the struggles I have with being driven is lack of clarity. Some days and weeks feel out of sync and stuck in a blurry cycle of home/work life. By the end of the week my up is down and my down is up. I feel like Paul in Romans 7:15. “For I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”
Sometimes I can pinpoint the probable cause such as not enough sleep, deadline at work, financial stress, overcommitted schedule. Other times I let my commitments stress me out or my priorities are out of line. I once read that anxiety is caused by your actions not aligning with your priorities. I encourage you to review your actions this week and target one thing that is a distraction from who you want to become.

Have you ever seen pictures of a natural disaster and wished you could do something to help out? Do you ever wish you could do something more than send money? If you’re anything like me you have a desire to get your hands dirty every now and again for a good cause.
Back in college I had the opportunity to go to New Orleans after hurricane Katrina and help restore a couple houses that had flooded. The feeling of truly helping someone in need is something I will never forget.
If you can relate to any of the feelings above check out Christ in Action. This is a faith based organization that has been responding to natural disasters since 1998. They deploy volunteers to communities across America–to large-scale, multi-state disasters like Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Sandy, and to smaller communities like Thibadaux, LA after Hurricane Gustav and Quinton, VA after tornadoes went through.
If you know of another great organization that is helping people in a tough spot let us know on social media.

I’m a nerd. We’ve already discussed it on the podcast, I’ve written about nerdy stuff on the blog. I’m not ashamed.
Now that that’s out of the way… let’s talk about videogames. I’ve played them pretty much my entire life, starting with the classic NES and Super Mario Brothers. As an adult, I still play when I get the chance; which is not very often.
As parents, one of the things we enjoy most is seeing our kids pick up on things that we like. I’ve had the opportunity to share my love of gaming with my kids with Minecraft. They love it. In fact, we have little LAN parties on the Minecraft server that I run out of my basement (I told you I’m nerdy). We’ve gotten 2 of our nephews accounts for their birthdays, so they join in the fun remotely as well.
It’s an amazing feeling to see my kids’ faces light up the same way mine did when I first saw that plump Italian plumber jumping around. What have you shared with your kids that you’ve been the most excited about?
